Pravastatin Sodium falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by OATP.
In vitro research suggests that eleuthero inhibits OATP2B1, which might reduce the bioavailability of oral drugs that are substrates of OATP2B1. Due to the weak inhibitory effect identified in this study, this interaction is not likely to be clinically significant.

Here's the gist for pravastatin and eleuthero. Pravastatin relies on transport proteins called OATPs to get absorbed and to reach your liver, where it does its cholesterol-lowering work. Lab studies hint that eleuthero may mildly block one of these transporters (OATP2B1). In theory, that could mean a little less pravastatin gets into your system, which might soften how well it lowers your LDL ('bad cholesterol').

The good news: this is only based on test-tube research, and the blocking effect seen was weak. Experts don't expect it to cause a real problem in everyday use. Pravastatin is also a gentle statin overall. Still, if you want to add eleuthero, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your cholesterol numbers.

What Is Pravastatin Used For?

Brand name: Pravachol

Pravastatin Sodium tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to treat high LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), high triglycerides (blood fats), and abnormal cholesterol levels. They are approved for adults and for children ages 8 and older with a hereditary form of high cholesterol called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).

In people without known heart disease, pravastatin helps reduce the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular death. In people who already have coronary heart disease (CHD), it is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, coronary death, stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and procedures to restore blood flow to the heart — and to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries.
