Valsartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2C9. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for valsartan and eleuthero. Lab and animal studies hint that eleuthero might slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways that helps clear valsartan from your body. If that slowdown happened in people, a bit more valsartan could linger, which in theory could nudge its blood-pressure-lowering effect a little stronger. That might show up as dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, or feeling unusually tired.

The important caveat: this has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in humans, so it stays mostly theoretical. Valsartan also leans on more than one route to leave the body, which softens the concern. Still, if you start an eleuthero supplement, it's smart to keep an eye on how you feel and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and to lower the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have reduced heart function. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (generic) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
