Ribociclib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INHIBITORS — the group Ergot interacts with.

Ergotamine, a constituent of ergot, is a substrate of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 might increase the risk of ergot toxicity. Some of these drugs include amiodarone (Cordarone), clarithromycin (Biaxin), diltiazem (Cardizem), erythromycin (E-mycin, Erythrocin), indinavir (Crixivan), ritonavir (Norvir), saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase), and many others.

Let me start with the bigger picture here: ergot, the crude fungus, is genuinely poisonous and should never be taken as a supplement at all. That alone is reason enough to keep it out of your routine. On top of that, there's a possible interaction worth knowing about. Your breast cancer medicine, ribociclib (Kisqali), blocks an enzyme in your body called CYP3A4, and that same enzyme is what breaks down ergot's active chemicals.

So when ribociclib slows that enzyme, ergot can build up and become more likely to cause ergot toxicity, which can mean cold or numb fingers and toes, leg cramps, and dangerously narrowed blood vessels. This is based on weaker, anecdotal evidence, but the smart move is simple: don't use ergot, and check with your pharmacist or oncologist about anything new.

Ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and contains powerful chemicals (ergot alkaloids) that strongly narrow blood vessels and squeeze the uterus. Because raw ergot is poisonous and the dose is impossible to control safely, it should never be used as a home remedy or supplement. Some purified ergot chemicals are used as prescription drugs under strict medical supervision, but the crude herb is not safe to take.

What Is Ribociclib Used For?

Brand name: Kisqali

Kisqali (ribociclib) tablets are used in adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. For early breast cancer (stage II or III, at high risk of coming back), Kisqali is given alongside an aromatase inhibitor as adjuvant treatment — meaning treatment after initial surgery to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Kisqali is used in combination with either an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant — as the first hormonal treatment tried, or after the cancer has grown despite prior hormone therapy.
