Here's the simple version: ergot itself tightens up your blood vessels and can nudge blood pressure and heart rate upward. Solriamfetol (Sunosi) does something similar in its own way, since it's a wakefulness drug that can raise blood pressure and heart rate too. Stack the two together and you may amplify that vessel-squeezing effect, which could show up as a higher blood pressure reading, a faster or pounding heartbeat, headache, or cold or tingly fingers and toes.

I'll be honest with you, this concern is based mostly on anecdotal reports rather than strong studies, so it's a possible issue, not a guaranteed one. Crude ergot also isn't something you should be taking at all because it's genuinely toxic. Please don't change your Sunosi on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything ergot-related with it.

What is Ergot?

Ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and contains powerful chemicals (ergot alkaloids) that strongly narrow blood vessels and squeeze the uterus. Because raw ergot is poisonous and the dose is impossible to control safely, it should never be used as a home remedy or supplement. Some purified ergot chemicals are used as prescription drugs under strict medical supervision, but the crude herb is not safe to take.

What Is Solriamfetol Used For?

Brand name: Sunosi

Sunosi (solriamfetol) is approved to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive daytime sleepiness caused by narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Important: Sunosi does not treat the airway obstruction that causes OSA. If you have OSA, you must continue your existing treatment — such as CPAP (a breathing machine worn at night) — throughout your time on Sunosi. Sunosi is not a replacement for those therapies.
