Yohimbine, a constituent of Rauvolfia vomitoria, has sympathomimetic effects and increases blood pressure in a dose-dependent manner. Theoretically, taking Rauvolfia vomitoria with stimulant drugs can have additive stimulant and hypertensive effects.

Here's the concern with pairing Rauvolfia vomitoria and solriamfetol (Sunosi). Solriamfetol is a wakefulness-promoting medicine that gently revs up your nervous system, and it can raise blood pressure and heart rate on its own. Rauvolfia contains yohimbine-type compounds that also stimulate the body and push blood pressure up. Stacking the two could add together and lead to higher blood pressure, a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, anxiety, headache, or trouble sleeping.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical warning based on how these substances work, not on strong studies in people. Still, because both can lift blood pressure, I'd treat it seriously. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially if you already have high blood pressure or any heart concerns.

What Is Solriamfetol Used For?

Brand name: Sunosi

Sunosi (solriamfetol) is approved to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive daytime sleepiness caused by narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Important: Sunosi does not treat the airway obstruction that causes OSA. If you have OSA, you must continue your existing treatment — such as CPAP (a breathing machine worn at night) — throughout your time on Sunosi. Sunosi is not a replacement for those therapies.
