First, the big picture: European mandrake is genuinely toxic, and we don't recommend taking it at all. Setting that aside, here's the specific concern with your HIV medicine, Maraviroc (Selzentry). Mandrake's natural chemicals (the same tropane alkaloids found in deadly nightshade) slow down how fast your gut moves. When your gut empties more slowly, a pill like maraviroc can sit longer and may get absorbed a bit more than expected.

In plain terms, that could mean slightly higher maraviroc levels in your blood, which might bump up side effects like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or stomach upset. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals work, not something proven in studies. The much bigger problem here is mandrake's own poisoning risk. Please don't combine them, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

About Maraviroc

What Is Maraviroc Used For?

Brand names: Celsentri, Selzentry

Maraviroc is used to treat a specific type of HIV-1 infection called CCR5-tropic HIV-1. It is always used in combination with other antiretroviral medications — never on its own.

Selzentry (the brand-name oral solution and tablet) is approved for adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 2 kg. The generic maraviroc tablet is approved for adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older weighing at least 10 kg. Before starting either product, a special test must confirm the virus is CCR5-tropic, since maraviroc is not recommended for dual/mixed- or CXCR4-tropic HIV-1.
