Here's the thing to understand about oral nystatin: when you take it for a mouth or gut fungal infection, it's actually meant to stay in your digestive tract and work right there on contact. It barely gets absorbed into your bloodstream, and that's exactly how it's supposed to work.

The theory on file is that European mandrake slows down how fast things move through your gut, which could let some drugs sit longer and get absorbed more. With nystatin this is mostly a non-issue, and the bigger concern is that mandrake itself is genuinely toxic and can cause a racing heart, blurred vision, confusion, and worse. I'd strongly urge you not to take mandrake at all, and please run any combination past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Nystatin Used For?

Brand names: Mycostatin, Nilstat

Nystatin treats infections caused by Candida yeast. The specific use depends on the form prescribed.

Topical creams, ointments, and powders (including brands like Mycostatin, Nystatin Cream, Klayesta, Nyamyc, Nystop, and Nystatin Topical Powder) treat Candida infections of the skin and mucous membranes. Nystatin Oral Suspension and Nystatin oral suspension treat candidiasis (yeast infection) in the mouth and oral cavity. Nystatin tablets are intended for non-esophageal mucous membrane Candida infections of the gastrointestinal tract.
