First and most important: European mandrake is genuinely poisonous, and I'd urge you not to take it in any form. Putting that next to a vital HIV medicine like raltegravir worries me even more, because keeping your HIV treatment steady and predictable really matters.

The interaction here is only theoretical, based on how mandrake behaves in the body. Its tropane alkaloids slow down the gut, and when the gut moves more slowly, a pill like raltegravir can sit longer and potentially get absorbed a bit more than usual. In theory that could mean higher levels and a greater chance of side effects such as headache, nausea, trouble sleeping, or tiredness. This isn't proven, but please don't combine them. Talk with your pharmacist or HIV provider first.

What Is Raltegravir Used For?

Brand name: Isentress

Raltegravir — available as Isentress and as the generic raltegravir tablet — is used to treat HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. It is always used together with other antiretroviral (anti-HIV) medicines, never on its own.

Isentress is approved for adults and for children weighing at least 2 kg. Raltegravir tablets are approved for adults and for children weighing at least 25 kg who can swallow a tablet whole.
