First things first: I really don't want you taking European mandrake at all. It's a poisonous nightshade plant, and the same chemicals that make it harmful (atropine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine) are exactly what cause this interaction with risperidone.

The idea here is theoretical, based on how these chemicals behave rather than proven studies. Mandrake slows down how your gut moves things along, and when your gut is sluggish, a pill like risperidone can sit longer and potentially get absorbed a bit more. That could nudge up risperidone's typical effects, things like heavy drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure when standing, or stiffness. Both also cause dry mouth and constipation, so those could stack up. Please skip the mandrake and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
