Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with Evodia and your cough syrup. The dextromethorphan part of this medicine gets partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, Evodia appears to slow that enzyme down. If that held true in people, dextromethorphan could build up a little, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or that slightly foggy, jittery feeling some folks get. The guaifenesin (the mucus-thinner) isn't really affected this way.

The good news: this is only seen in lab dishes, not in actual humans, so it's mostly theoretical. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you take Evodia regularly or feel unusually woozy, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
