Griseofulvin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, taking CYP3A4 inducers might decrease the levels and clinical effects of evodia.
Animal research shows that concomitant administration of dexamethasone, a known CYP3A4 inducer, with the alkaloid constituents of evodia significantly reduces the area under the curve (AUC), maximum concentration (Cmax), and half-life of these constituents.

Here's the gist for this pairing: griseofulvin is one of those medicines that can nudge your liver to speed up a busy enzyme called CYP3A4. Evodia's active compounds happen to be cleared by that same enzyme. So in theory, taking them together could make your body break down the evodia faster, leaving less of it around to do whatever you were hoping it would do.

The important part is the direction. This is not about griseofulvin getting stronger or weaker, it's about the evodia potentially being weakened. And honestly, this is based only on animal and lab research, so it's pretty theoretical. Culinary amounts likely won't matter much. Still, before combining a supplement with a prescription antifungal, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Griseofulvin Used For?

Brand names: Fulvicin PG, Fulvicin-U/F, Grisactin Ultra, Grisactin

Griseofulvin treats dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails that haven't cleared up with topical (cream or ointment) treatment alone. It is used for tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea barbae (ringworm of the beard area), tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), and tinea unguium (fungal nail infection).

It only works against specific dermatophyte fungi. Griseofulvin does not treat bacterial infections, yeast infections (candidiasis), or other fungal infections such as histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, or tinea versicolor. A lab test or fungal culture should confirm the infection before treatment starts.
