Evodia and Testosterone Undecanoate

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Testosterone Undecanoate

Testosterone Undecanoate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear oral testosterone undecanoate (like Jatenzo or Kyzatrex). In test tubes, evodia appears to slow that enzyme down. If the same thing happened in people, your testosterone could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like acne, oily skin, mood changes, fluid retention, or shifts in your blood counts and lab values.

Here's the honest part: this is only theoretical. It has been seen in lab studies, not in actual patients, so we don't know if it really matters in real life. Still, since your doctor tracks your testosterone with lab tests, it's worth mentioning evodia to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Testosterone Injection

What Is Testosterone Injection Used For?

Brand names: Andriol, Aveed, Jatenzo, Kyzatrex

Testosterone injections replace testosterone when the body makes too little or none. The label describes this in men with primary hypogonadism (a problem in the testicles) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (a problem with the pituitary or hypothalamus signals).

Testosterone Enanthate Injection is also used to stimulate puberty in carefully selected boys with clearly delayed puberty. It may be used secondarily in some postmenopausal women with advanced, inoperable breast cancer that has spread to the bone, under an oncologist’s direction. Aveed is for hypogonadism in men and is not for use in women.
