Escitalopram falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) INHIBITORS — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP1A2 might increase the levels and clinical effects of evodia.
The evodia constituent rutaecarpine is metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here's the thing about this particular pairing: the concern runs toward evodia, not your Lexapro. Escitalopram can mildly block an enzyme called CYP1A2, and one of evodia's active compounds (rutaecarpine) is cleared by that same enzyme. So in theory, taking them together could slow how your body breaks down evodia, letting it build up a bit more than expected.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. It comes only from lab and animal research, not from real people, so it's mostly theoretical. Escitalopram itself isn't likely to be thrown off here. Still, since evodia hasn't been well studied in humans anyway, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, especially watching for any new stomach upset or unusual symptoms.

What Is Escitalopram Used For?

Brand name: Lexapro

Escitalopram treats major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and in adolescents 12 years of age and older. It also treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults.

Lexapro (escitalopram) tablets are additionally approved to treat GAD in pediatric patients 7 years of age and older. Escitalopram capsules are indicated for MDD and GAD in adults younger than 65 years of age, and for MDD in pediatric patients 12 and older — but are not for use in adults 65 or older.
