Evodia has demonstrated dose-dependent activity as a proarrhythmic agent in animal and in vitro studies. Evodia infusion in animals extends the action duration potential and induces prolongation of the QT interval and Torsade de pointes.

Here's the concern with pairing Evodia and flecainide (Tambocor). Flecainide is a heart rhythm medicine that can already nudge a part of your heartbeat called the QT interval. In lab and animal studies, Evodia has done something similar, stretching out that same electrical phase. Put them together and the worry is an additive effect, meaning a slightly higher chance of a dangerous irregular rhythm like Torsade de pointes.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: it's theoretical and based only on test tube and animal work, not human cases, so don't panic. Still, because flecainide is a narrow-margin heart drug where small shifts matter, please don't add Evodia without checking with your pharmacist or cardiologist first.

About Flecainide

What Is Flecainide Used For?

Brand name: Tambocor

Flecainide Acetate tablets are used to prevent episodes of certain abnormal heart rhythms. In patients without structural heart disease, it is approved to prevent paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT — episodes of rapid heart rate starting above the ventricles) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation/flutter (PAF — intermittent episodes of irregular, rapid heart rhythm in the upper chambers), when these cause disabling symptoms.

Flecainide Acetate tablets are also used to prevent life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias — dangerous rapid rhythms starting in the lower chambers of the heart, such as sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is not recommended for less serious ventricular arrhythmias, for patients with a recent heart attack, or for chronic (ongoing, persistent) atrial fibrillation.
