Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Isavuconazonium Sulfate (oral)
Isavuconazonium Sulfate (oral) falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on pairing Evodia with Cresemba (isavuconazonium). Your body clears this antifungal partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies (test tubes, not people), compounds in Evodia appear to slow that enzyme down. If that also happened in the body, your isavuconazole levels could creep up, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, headache, low potassium, or changes in liver blood tests.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical and hasn't been shown in humans. So I'm not ringing alarm bells. Still, this is a serious medication treating a serious infection, so before adding an Evodia supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
