Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group False Unicorn interacts with.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole (the active drug inside Aristada). In a lab dish, False Unicorn appears to slow that enzyme down. The concern is that if this enzyme works less efficiently, more aripiprazole could linger in your system, which in theory could nudge up side effects like drowsiness, restlessness (feeling unable to sit still), dizziness, tremor, or low blood pressure.

Here's the reassuring part: this is based only on test-tube data, not on real people, so it's quite uncertain. Still, since Aristada is a long-acting injection you can't easily take back, I'd play it safe. Please run False Unicorn by your prescriber or pharmacist before combining the two.

In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Here's the situation with this long-acting aripiprazole injection (Aristada). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear aripiprazole from your body. In lab dish testing, False Unicorn appeared to slow that same enzyme down. If that holds true in people, the medication could clear a little more slowly and build up, which might mean stronger side effects like sleepiness, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, or low blood pressure when you stand up.

The honest part: this is based only on test-tube data, not on real patients, so it's theoretical and far from proven. Still, since this is a steady, long-acting shot you can't easily "undo," I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or prescriber before adding False Unicorn, and don't change your injection schedule on your own.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
