ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cloxacillin Sodium
Cloxacillin Sodium falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Fermented Milk interacts with.
Some fermented milk preparations contain live and active organisms, including lactobacilli and bifidobacteria strains. Simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of these organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and fermented milk preparations by at least 2 hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know about pairing fermented milk (like kefir or yogurt drinks) with cloxacillin: this is really about protecting the supplement, not your antibiotic. Cloxacillin works just fine either way. But since it's an antibiotic, it doesn't know the difference between the bacteria causing your infection and the friendly probiotic bugs in that fermented milk. Taken at the same time, it may kill off a chunk of those live cultures, so you simply don't get the gut benefits you were hoping for.
This is a theoretical concern based on how antibiotics behave, not a dangerous reaction. A simple fix: space them out by at least 2 hours. Finish your full cloxacillin course as prescribed, and check with your pharmacist if you have questions.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cloxacillin Sodium page
“The entries that concern me most on cloxacillin sodium (Tegopen, Cloxapen), a penicillin antibiotic used against staph infections, are the ones that strain the kidneys or stop the drug from getting absorbed at all. Siberian cocklebur and asarabacca can add to kidney stress, and activated charcoal can soak up the antibiotic itself, so t…”
