Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist: minoxidil (Loniten) is a strong blood pressure pill that widens your blood vessels. Fermented milk products like kefir or yogurt drinks have been shown in some studies to nudge the top number (systolic) of your blood pressure down a little. So in theory, pairing the two could lower your blood pressure a bit more than minoxidil alone.

If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest though, this concern is mostly theoretical and the effect from food amounts is usually small. Enjoying fermented milk as part of a regular diet is generally fine. If you notice dizziness or your readings drop, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Minoxidil page

“American hellebore heads the concerns for anyone taking minoxidil (Loniten, Rogaine), because even small amounts of its alkaloids lower blood pressure on their own, a dangerous match with one of the most potent pressure-lowering drugs prescribed. It is one of four major-rated entries among the 139 supplements and herbs on record, and t…”

About Minoxidil

What Is Minoxidil Used For?

Brand names: Loniten, Rogaine, Minoxidil

Minoxidil tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) — specifically in patients who haven't responded well to other blood pressure medications. They are a powerful option reserved for difficult-to-control cases.

Topical minoxidil products — including solutions, sprays, gels, and foams from many brands — are used to regrow hair on the top of the scalp (called the vertex). Products labeled for men and for women may differ; for example, Bosley MD Regular Strength for Women and Dizop Minoxidil Topical Gel are each labeled for their specific intended users.
