Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the idea behind this one. When hydrocortisone is being used to calm down the immune system (for things like severe allergies, lupus flares, or certain inflammatory conditions), the goal is to dial the immune response down. Fermented milk products that contain live probiotic cultures are thought to gently stimulate immune activity. So in theory, regularly eating a lot of these could push back against what your hydrocortisone is trying to do, possibly making it work a little less well.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and based on how things work in the lab, not on real cases of people having problems. A normal serving of yogurt or kefir is very unlikely to matter for most folks. If you're on hydrocortisone to suppress your immune system, or you're taking concentrated probiotic supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before making changes.
