Here's the thing to keep in mind: fostamatinib (Tavalisse) works by quieting part of your immune system to slow the destruction of your platelets. Some lab and small clinical studies suggest fermented milk can gently stimulate the immune system. In theory, that nudge in the opposite direction could work against what fostamatinib is trying to do, which might mean less protection for your platelets and a return of easy bruising or bleeding.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is a theoretical concern based on how things work, not proven harm in people taking this drug. A normal serving of yogurt or kefir is very unlikely to cause a problem. If you're using concentrated probiotic supplements or eating large amounts daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Fostamatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tavalisse

Tavalisse (fostamatinib) is used to treat thrombocytopenia — dangerously low platelet counts — in adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). It is specifically for people whose platelet counts have not improved enough with at least one earlier ITP treatment.

The goal is to raise platelet counts high enough to reduce the risk of serious bleeding. If platelet counts do not respond sufficiently after 12 weeks, the medication is typically stopped.
