Garden Cress + Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen brand names: Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil, Children's Advil, Fenbid Forte Gel, and others.
Garden Cress has a moderate interaction with Ibuprofen. Theoretically, garden cress seed may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Garden Cress interacts with.
Animal research suggests that garden cress seed extract can increase bleeding time when used in combination with the antiplatelet agent clopidogrel. This has not been shown in humans and it is unclear if garden cress seed itself has anticoagulant or antiplatelet effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) already nudges up your bleeding risk a little on its own, because it affects how platelets clump together to form clots. Garden cress seed has been looked at as something that might add to that effect. In one animal study, concentrated cress seed extract lengthened bleeding time when paired with a blood thinner, so the worry is that stacking the two could make bleeding or bruising more likely.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This was lab and animal work, not people, and we don't even know for sure that garden cress thins the blood in humans. Eating cress as a food in normal cooking amounts is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take strong seed supplements regularly, or notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Garden Cress
What is Garden Cress?
- Digestive support
- Bone health
- Iron and vitamin source
- Cough and respiratory comfort
- Boosting breast milk (traditional)
- Constipation relief
Garden cress is a nutritious leafy herb and seed used widely in cooking and traditional medicine, providing vitamins, minerals, and fiber. While it has a long history of use for digestion, bone health, and lactation, strong human research supporting most medicinal claims is limited. It is generally safe as a food, but concentrated seed supplements should be used cautiously and avoided in pregnancy.
About Ibuprofen
What Is Ibuprofen Used For?
Brand names: Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil, Children's Advil, Fenbid Forte Gel, Ibugel Forte, Arthrofen, Ebufac, Rimafen, Calprofen, Fenpaed, Galprofen, Nurofen for Children, Orbifen for Children, Brufen, Brufen Retard, Fenbid, Tab-Profen, Ibuprofen, Calodor
Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).
Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.

Ibuprofen Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Ibuprofen as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garden Cress — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
