Here's the simple version: the codeine part of your aspirin-codeine combo is an opioid, and opioids tend to make you drowsy, foggy, and relaxed. German chamomile, usually taken as a tea, has its own mild calming, sleepy effect. Put the two together and those sedating effects can stack up, so you might feel sleepier, more lightheaded, or slower to react than you'd expect.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, not strong human studies, so an occasional cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to knock you out. Still, be a little cautious about driving or mixing it with regular chamomile supplements, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

Aspirin, Codeine Phosphate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's a twist worth knowing about your Aspirin with Codeine. Codeine is a prodrug, which means your body has to convert it into morphine to get pain relief, and the enzyme that does that job is called CYP2D6. German chamomile, at least in lab testing, may slow that same enzyme down.

So if anything, chamomile could mean less codeine gets turned into active morphine, which might leave your pain less controlled rather than causing an overdose. I want to be honest though: this is only based on test-tube studies and hasn't actually been reported in people, so a cup of chamomile tea is very unlikely to be a problem. If you're using concentrated chamomile supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your pain is being managed.
