German Chamomile + drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate brand name: Beyaz.
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 4 drug categories that German Chamomile can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

These two interact in 4 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 4 Interactions?
German Chamomile interacts with whole categories of medication. drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 4 of those categories, so it can interact with German Chamomile in 4 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 4Why this applies to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Beyaz combines an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone) that your liver partly clears using an enzyme called CYP3A4. In a test tube, German chamomile appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more of these hormones linger in your body, which might mean more of the usual things like nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, or spotting.
Here's the honest part: this has only been seen in lab studies, never confirmed in actual people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over an occasional cup of chamomile tea. If you drink it regularly or use concentrated supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS
2 of 4drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS.
In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity. Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with contraceptive drugs through competition for estrogen receptors.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Beyaz is a birth control pill that relies on its estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) to help prevent pregnancy. The concern here is mostly a theoretical one. In lab dish studies, German chamomile showed some anti-estrogen activity, meaning it might compete with your pill's estrogen at the receptor level. In plain terms, large concentrated chamomile doses could in theory make your pill work a little less well.
Here's the reassuring part: this is based only on test-tube research, not on real people, so we don't have proof it actually matters. A normal cup or two of chamomile tea is very unlikely to be a problem. If you regularly take strong chamomile supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so you can stay confident your birth control stays effective.

ESTROGENS
3 of 4drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under ESTROGENS.
In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity. Theoretically, large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with hormone replacement therapy through competition for estrogen receptors.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Beyaz combines an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) with the progestin drospirenone and a folate, and it's most often used for birth control. The concern on file is that German chamomile has shown antiestrogenic activity, meaning it may compete with estrogen at its receptors. In theory, very large amounts could slightly blunt the estrogen part of your pill.
Here's the honest part: this comes only from lab (test tube) studies, not from real people, so it's theoretical. A cup or two of chamomile tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated chamomile supplements taken in big doses are the bigger question mark. If you rely on Beyaz for pregnancy prevention and want to use chamomile regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
4 of 4drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro and animal research shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking German chamomile.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Beyaz (drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, plus the folate form levomefolate). German chamomile has been shown in test tube and animal studies to mildly block an enzyme called CYP1A2. The estrogen part of your pill leans somewhat on this enzyme, so in theory chamomile could slow its breakdown and let estrogen levels drift a little higher. That might mean more of the usual estrogen-related nuisances, like nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, or headaches.
Honestly though, this is a minor, theoretical concern. It has never actually been reported in people, and a cup or two of chamomile tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated chamomile supplements are the bigger question mark. If you take those regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About German Chamomile
What is German Chamomile?
- Anxiety and stress
- Sleep and relaxation
- Digestive upset
- Skin irritation and inflammation
- Mouth sores and gum irritation
German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.
