Insulin determir falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ginkgo interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ginkgo with antidiabetes drugs might alter the response to antidiabetes drugs.
Ginkgo leaf extract seems to alter insulin secretion and metabolism, and might affect blood glucose levels in people with type 2 diabetes. The effect of ginkgo seems to differ depending on the insulin and treatment status of the patient. In diet-controlled diabetes patients with hyperinsulinemia, taking ginkgo does not seem to significantly affect insulin or blood glucose levels. In patients with hyperinsulinemia who are treated with oral hypoglycemic agents, taking ginkgo seems to decrease insulin levels and increase blood glucose following an oral glucose tolerance test. Researchers speculate that this could be due to ginkgo-enhanced hepatic metabolism of insulin. In patients with pancreatic exhaustion, taking ginkgo seems to stimulate pancreatic beta-cells, resulting in increased insulin and C-peptide levels, but with no significant change in blood glucose levels in response to an oral glucose tolerance test.

If you use Levemir (insulin detemir) to manage your diabetes, here's the honest take on adding ginkgo. The concern is that ginkgo may shift how your body handles insulin and sugar, so your blood glucose readings could become a little less predictable. In some people it may nudge blood sugar up, in others it may not change much at all. The direction really depends on the person.

Because of that uncertainty, your usual Levemir dose might not line up perfectly with your numbers, which could mean higher readings or, less commonly, a low (shaky, sweaty, dizzy feeling). The evidence here is fairly weak and partly theoretical, so don't panic. Just check your sugars a bit more closely if you start ginkgo, and loop in your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

Brand name: Levemir

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
