Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the basic idea with Orencia (abatacept): it works by calming down an overactive immune system to ease the joint pain, swelling, and damage of rheumatoid arthritis. Glyconutrients are sold with the claim that they can stir up certain immune responses. So in theory, these two could work against each other, with the supplement nudging your immune system back up while the medication is trying to quiet it down.

I want to be honest with you, though: this concern comes only from lab dish studies, not from people, so it's very much a theoretical worry. Still, since abatacept is your immune-calming therapy, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding glyconutrients, rather than guessing on your own.

What Is Abatacept Injection Used For?

Brand name: Orencia

Orencia is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and adults and children 2 years and older with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) or moderately to severely active polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA) — a type of arthritis that affects multiple joints in children.

Orencia is also used, alongside two other medicines (a calcineurin inhibitor and methotrexate), to prevent acute graft versus host disease (aGVHD) — a serious immune reaction — in adults and children 2 and older who receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor.
