Mobocertinib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.

There's very preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of goldthread, might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking goldthread. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use goldthread cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the simple version. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down mobocertinib (Exkivity). Berberine, the active compound in goldthread, may slow that enzyme down. If it does, your cancer medicine could clear out of your system more slowly and build up to higher levels than intended.

With mobocertinib, higher levels can mean more of its known side effects, things like diarrhea, nausea, mouth sores, rash, and changes to your heart's rhythm (QT prolongation) that doctors already watch closely. I want to be honest though: this interaction is only a theory based on lab work and has not been seen in real patients. Because this is a serious cancer drug, please don't add goldthread without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Mobocertinib Used For?

  • Mobocertinib is used to treat a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that cannot be removed by surgery and has spread to other parts of the body either during or after treatment with platinum chemotherapy medications. Mobocertinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells and may help shrink tumors.
