Mobocertinib Succinate falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, ephedra might have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Even in healthy volunteers, EKG changes including prolonged QT interval and premature atrial contractions have been reported with ingestion of recommended doses of ephedra. Ephedra may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here's the concern with these two together. Mobocertinib (Exkivity) is one of those cancer medicines that can stretch out your heart's electrical cycle, something we call QT prolongation. That's already a known watch-point with this drug, which is why your oncology team checks EKGs and blood minerals while you're on it.

Ephedra is a strong stimulant that can also nudge your heart rhythm, raising blood pressure and even causing EKG changes in healthy people. Stack it on top of mobocertinib and you could add risk for a dangerous irregular heartbeat. Warning signs would be a racing or fluttering heart, dizziness, or fainting. Ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements anyway, so please don't use it. Talk with your pharmacist or oncologist before adding anything new.

What Is Mobocertinib Used For?

  • Mobocertinib is used to treat a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that cannot be removed by surgery and has spread to other parts of the body either during or after treatment with platinum chemotherapy medications. Mobocertinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells and may help shrink tumors.
