Halothane falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Gotu Kola interacts with.

Theoretically, taking gotu kola with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects.
There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the simple version. Halothane is an older anesthesia gas used to put people to sleep for surgery, and one of its known risks is that it can be hard on the liver in rare cases. Gotu kola, the herb, has also been linked to liver problems in a small handful of reports. The worry is that if both are stressing the liver around the same time, the strain could potentially add up.

I want to be honest about how shaky this concern is. It's mostly theoretical, based on just a few anecdotal cases, and we don't even know for sure gotu kola caused them. Also, halothane is given by an anesthesia team, not something you take at home. Still, please tell your surgeon, anesthesiologist, and pharmacist about any gotu kola you take so they can decide what's safest.
