Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Lorazepam
Lorazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Gotu Kola interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that gotu kola may have sedative effects via binding of GABA receptors.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: lorazepam already calms your brain down to ease anxiety and help you sleep. Gotu kola may have its own mild calming action, since lab studies hint it can nudge the same GABA system in your brain that lorazepam works on. Put them together and you could feel more drowsy, foggy, or unsteady than usual, with extra sleepiness or slower reactions.
I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This concern is theoretical, based on how the herb behaves in the lab, not on real cases of people getting into trouble. So it's a reason to be a little cautious, not to panic. Before you pair these two, check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you drive or already feel sedated on lorazepam.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lorazepam page
“Lorazepam (Ativan) works by slowing brain activity, and that is exactly why this list deserves real caution. Of the 119 supplement and herbal ingredients on file, 78 are themselves nervous-system depressants, so adding them can deepen drowsiness or, at the extreme, slow breathing.”

About Gotu Kola
What is Gotu Kola?
- Wound healing
- Varicose veins and poor circulation
- Anxiety and stress
- Memory and mental clarity
- Skin health and scarring
Gotu kola is a traditional Ayurvedic and Asian herb that people use for wound healing, circulation, skin problems, and as a calming or memory-supporting herb. Some early studies suggest possible benefits for vein health and skin, but the overall evidence is limited and not strong. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver problems.
About Lorazepam
What Is Lorazepam Used For?
Brand name: Ativan
Lorazepam tablets (Ativan and generic) and the oral solution are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, including anxiety that comes with depressive symptoms. Loreev XR, an extended-release capsule, is specifically indicated for adults with anxiety disorders who are already stable on lorazepam tablets taken three times daily.
Ativan and generic lorazepam injections are used in two additional situations: treating status epilepticus (a medical emergency involving prolonged or repeated seizures) and as a pre-surgery medication in adults to produce sedation, ease anxiety, and reduce memory of events on the day of surgery.

Lorazepam Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Lorazepam as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Gotu Kola — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
