Here's the gist: Meprobamate already slows down activity in your brain to ease anxiety, which is why it can leave you feeling drowsy, foggy, or a little unsteady. Gotu kola may have its own mild calming effect. In lab studies, its compounds appear to nudge the same GABA system in the brain that many sedatives act on. So the worry is that stacking the two could deepen that sleepiness.

If you used both, you might feel more tired than usual, slower to react, or more woozy on your feet. I'll be honest, this caution is theoretical, based on how the herb behaves in the lab, not on real-world reports. Still, since Meprobamate is a true tranquilizer, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding gotu kola.

What Is Meprobamate Used For?

Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication.

Because its effectiveness beyond four months has not been well studied, meprobamate is typically used for a limited period of time, with a prescriber checking in regularly to decide whether continued use is still appropriate.
