Here's the simple version: buprenorphine already has calming, drowsy effects, since it works on the same brain pathways as opioids. Gotu kola may add a little extra sedation of its own. In lab studies, the herb appears to nudge GABA receptors, which are the brain's natural "slow down" signals. Stack that on top of buprenorphine and you could feel more sleepy, foggy, or less alert than usual.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves in test tubes, not real patient reports. So don't panic. Still, if you take buprenorphine and want to try gotu kola, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and avoid driving until you know how the combo affects you.
