Here's the simple version: both lorazepam (Ativan) and GHB slow down your brain and nervous system. Lorazepam calms nerve activity through GABA, and GHB does its own kind of heavy sedation on top of that. Stack them together and those calming effects don't just add up, they can pile on each other in a dangerous way.

That means more grogginess, deep sedation, confusion, and the real worry, slowed or stopped breathing. This combination can lead to coma or death. The evidence here is mostly anecdotal, but the risk is taken very seriously. Honestly, non-prescription GHB isn't a safe supplement to begin with. Please don't combine these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about anything you're taking.

Theoretically, GHB may reduce the effects of anticonvulsant medications.
GHB has been reported to cause seizures, and may theoretically reduce the effectiveness of anticonvulsants. Also, concomitant use of GHB with sedative anticonvulsants may increase the risk of serious CNS and respiratory depression.

Here's the big-picture concern with this pair: both GHB and lorazepam (Ativan) are powerful brain depressants. Lorazepam calms nerve activity through GABA, and GHB slows the brain in a similar, overlapping way. Stacking them can pile up that sedating effect, so you may see heavy drowsiness, confusion, slurred speech, unsteadiness, and most dangerously, dangerously slow or shallow breathing. That combination can lead to coma. I want to be honest that the seizure note in our file is theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal evidence, but the breathing risk is the real-world worry here.

Bottom line: GHB sold outside of a prescription is not a safe supplement, and mixing it with lorazepam is risky. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything like this.

What is Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (ghb)?

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.

About Lorazepam

What Is Lorazepam Used For?

Brand name: Ativan

Lorazepam tablets (Ativan and generic) and the oral solution are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, including anxiety that comes with depressive symptoms. Loreev XR, an extended-release capsule, is specifically indicated for adults with anxiety disorders who are already stable on lorazepam tablets taken three times daily.

Ativan and generic lorazepam injections are used in two additional situations: treating status epilepticus (a medical emergency involving prolonged or repeated seizures) and as a pre-surgery medication in adults to produce sedation, ease anxiety, and reduce memory of events on the day of surgery.
