Here's the simple version: both chlorpromazine and GHB push the brain in the same direction, which is to slow it down. Chlorpromazine already causes drowsiness, low blood pressure, dizziness, and slowed breathing on its own. GHB is a powerful nervous system depressant too. Stack them together and those calming effects can pile up fast, raising the risk of heavy sedation, fainting, dangerously slow or shallow breathing, and in a worst case, coma.

I want to be honest that this warning is based on case reports rather than big studies, but the danger is real and the combination is rated as major. GHB outside of a tightly controlled prescription isn't safe to begin with. Please don't mix these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about anything you're taking with chlorpromazine.

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.

What Is Chlorpromazine Used For?

Brand names: Thorazine, Thorazine Spansules

Chlorpromazine is used to manage psychotic disorders and treat schizophrenia. It also controls nausea and vomiting, relieves restlessness and apprehension before surgery, and controls the manic phase of manic-depressive illness. Other uses include relief of intractable hiccups, treatment of acute intermittent porphyria, and use as an adjunct in tetanus treatment.

In children ages 1 to 12, it is used for severe behavioral problems marked by explosive or combative behavior, and for short-term treatment of hyperactive children with conduct disorders. The oral forms are also approved for the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders broadly, in addition to the uses shared with the injection form.
