Here's the simple version: both GHB and doxepin slow down your brain and nervous system. Doxepin is a sedating tricyclic that's used to help people sleep, so on its own it already makes you drowsy. Stack a powerful depressant like GHB on top of it, and those calming effects can pile up in a dangerous way.

Together they can cause heavy sedation, slowed or stopped breathing, very low blood pressure, and even coma. This isn't a subtle interaction. Keep in mind GHB sold outside a pharmacy isn't a safe supplement at all, and the reports linking it to serious breathing problems with sedatives are real. Please don't combine these, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about anything that affects your sleep or alertness.

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.
