There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the simple version: this isn't about gotu kola changing how well your norgestrel birth control works. The concern is purely about the liver. There are a handful of case reports where gotu kola was linked to liver irritation, though it's not certain the herb was actually to blame. Norgestrel, like many hormones, is also processed by the liver and can occasionally stress it.

The worry is that stacking two things that may bother the liver could add up. This is theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal evidence, so don't panic. But if you take both, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain on the upper right, unusual tiredness, or nausea. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Brand names: Ovrette, Orval 21

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
