Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can grab onto pills in your stomach and slow or block how much gets absorbed. With lansoprazole (Prevacid), the worry is that you'd take in less of the drug, so it may not control your stomach acid as well. That could mean your heartburn or reflux symptoms creep back, or an ulcer heals more slowly.

This is a possible interaction, not a sure thing, and it's about timing more than danger. An easy fix is spacing them out: take your lansoprazole first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Food-sized amounts of fiber usually aren't the concern, but concentrated supplements can be. Run your routine by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
