Losartan Potassium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's something worth knowing about losartan: it's actually a prodrug in part. Your liver uses an enzyme (mostly CYP2C9, with some help from CYP3A4) to turn losartan into its more active form, which does much of the blood pressure lowering work. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab studies might slow down CYP3A4.

So in theory, blocking that enzyme could shift how much active drug you make. The good news is this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, and one human study using high-dose resveratrol didn't require any medication changes. Real-world impact is likely small. Still, since blood pressure matters, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Hu Zhang, and keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Keeping blood pressure under control lowers the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged heart muscle). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients. Additionally, losartan treats diabetic nephropathy — kidney damage caused by type 2 diabetes — in people who also have high blood pressure.
