Sildenafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the situation with Hu Zhang and sildenafil. Your body clears sildenafil mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in test-tube studies might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, sildenafil could clear out more slowly and build up, which may bump up its effects and side effects like headache, flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or a drop in blood pressure.

The good news: this is mostly theory. One human study using a big resveratrol dose didn't require any medication changes, so real-world risk looks low. Still, since concentrated supplements act differently than food, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Revatio

Sildenafil treats two distinct conditions depending on the product. Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) — difficulty getting or keeping an erection. Generic sildenafil tablets and oral film are also approved for ED.

Revatio and several generic sildenafil products (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow the disease from getting worse. Revatio oral suspension and injection are also approved for PAH in children ages 1 to 17.
