Here's the gist for Viibryd. The resveratrol in Hu Zhang may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C19, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear vilazodone. If that enzyme works more slowly, more of the drug can hang around, and that could nudge up its effects and side effects. For vilazodone, that might mean things like nausea, diarrhea, headache, trouble sleeping, or dizziness becoming more noticeable.

I want to be honest about how soft this is, though. It comes only from lab studies, not real people, so it's very much a theoretical concern. Still, before pairing concentrated Hu Zhang supplements with your antidepressant, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for Viibryd (vilazodone). Your body clears this antidepressant using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab dishes can slow that same enzyme down. On paper, that could let vilazodone build up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or trouble sleeping.

The good news: this is a theoretical concern based mostly on test-tube studies. A human study using a hefty 3000 mg daily dose of resveratrol didn't require any medication changes, so a real-world problem seems unlikely. Still, since everyone reacts differently, I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, and let them know if you feel off.

Vilazodone is not approved for use in children or teenagers. Its safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients.
