Eliglustat falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the gist with Cerdelga (eliglustat) and these beet chews. The grape seed extract in each serving may, in theory, slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme. Since your body relies partly on that enzyme to clear eliglustat, blocking it could let the drug build up a bit. Eliglustat is already a fairly sensitive medication when it comes to heart rhythm, so higher levels could mean a greater chance of side effects like dizziness, palpitations, or changes in your heartbeat.

That said, this concern comes only from lab studies, and there are no real human reports of it happening. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Because eliglustat dosing depends heavily on how you metabolize it, I'd just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding these chews.

What Is Eliglustat Used For?

Brand name: Cerdelga

Cerdelga (eliglustat) is used for the long-term treatment of Gaucher disease type 1 in adults. Gaucher disease type 1 is a genetic condition in which a fatty substance called glucosylceramide builds up in organs like the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, causing them to enlarge and leading to problems like anemia and low platelet counts.

Cerdelga is only appropriate for adults whose bodies process the drug in a predictable way — specifically those identified as CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers (EMs), intermediate metabolizers (IMs), or poor metabolizers (PMs) by an FDA-cleared genetic test. People who are CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolizers may not reach drug levels high enough to benefit, and Cerdelga is not recommended for them.
