These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with whole categories of medication. Nifedipine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Humann Superbeets Heart Chews in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
Antihypertensive Drugs
1 of 2Why this applies to Nifedipine
Nifedipine falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: nifedipine already relaxes and widens your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. The beet nitrates in SuperBeets Heart Chews can nudge things in the same direction, helping your vessels open up a bit more. Two effects pointing the same way means your blood pressure could dip a little lower than nifedipine alone would do.
In real life this is usually a minor, short-lived bump. What you might notice is feeling a touch more dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, or a mild headache or flushing (effects nifedipine can cause on its own). Most people do fine, but if you feel woozy, check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything, particularly if your pressure already runs on the low side.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
2 of 2Nifedipine also falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the short version: your body clears nifedipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews (about 150mg per serving) has shown some ability to slow that enzyme down in lab dish studies. In theory, if nifedipine clears more slowly, levels could creep up a bit and you might notice more of its usual effects, like dizziness, flushing, headache, swelling in your ankles, or lower blood pressure than expected.
That said, I don't want to alarm you. This is only a theoretical, lab-based concern, and there are no real-world human cases of it happening. The beets in this product can also gently lower blood pressure on their own, so it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you already run low or feel lightheaded.
