Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Why this applies to Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate
Erythromycin Ethylsuccinate falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for you. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews (about 150mg in two chews) has shown, in test-tube studies only, a mild ability to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Erythromycin is partly handled by that same enzyme, and it isn't a prodrug, so if its breakdown slowed even a little, more of the drug could linger in your system. In theory that might nudge up the usual erythromycin side effects, like stomach upset, nausea, cramping, or diarrhea.
That said, I don't want to overstate this. The evidence is weak and lab-based, with no actual reports of it happening in people, so for most folks it's very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, since you're on an antibiotic, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
