nilotinib falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the short version for nilotinib (Tasigna). Your body clears this cancer medicine mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews has shown, in lab dish studies only, a mild ability to slow that same enzyme. In theory, slower clearance could let nilotinib levels drift a little higher, which might nudge up its side effects, things like nausea, headache, fatigue, rash, or changes in your heart rhythm (QT prolongation).

That said, this is a weak, theoretical concern. It has never actually been reported in people, and the dose of grape seed extract here is small. Still, nilotinib is a serious drug with real heart-rhythm cautions, so I'd run any new supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first before adding it.

What Is Nilotinib Used For?

Brand name: Tasigna

  • Nilotinib is used to treat certain types of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) who have recently found to have this condition in adults and children 1 year of age and older. It is also used to treat certain types of CML in adults whose disease could not be treated successfully with imatinib (Gleevec) or adults who cannot take imatinib because of side effects. Nilotinib is also used to treat certain types of CML in children 1 year of age or older whose disease could not be treated successfully with other tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapies or who cannot take these medications because of side effects. Nilotinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps to stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.
