Vismodegib falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Indian Long Pepper interacts with.

Theoretically, Indian long pepper might increase levels of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that piperine, a constituent of Indian long pepper, can inhibit P-glycoprotein.

Here's the gist of this one: vismodegib relies partly on a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein to move it around and clear it from your body. The piperine in Indian long pepper can slow that pump down, at least in lab studies. If that happens in real life, more vismodegib could hang around in your bloodstream, which may bump up the usual side effects, things like muscle spasms or cramps, hair thinning, loss of taste, nausea, and feeling tired.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's theoretical, based on test-tube data rather than studies in people. A pinch of the spice in food is unlikely to matter much; concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. Since vismodegib is a serious cancer drug, please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.

Erivedge (vismodegib) is used to treat adults with basal cell carcinoma — the most common type of skin cancer — in two specific situations: when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic basal cell carcinoma), or when it is locally advanced and has returned after surgery, or when surgery and radiation are not options.

It is not approved for use in children.
