Vismodegib falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might increase the levels and clinical effects of p-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces p-glycoprotein mRNA expression; however, effects on transporter expression were not evaluated.

Here's the simple version for Erivedge (vismodegib). Your body uses a tiny pump called P-glycoprotein to help move this cancer drug around and out of cells. Lab tests suggest Bulbine natalensis might rev up that pump, which could push more vismodegib out and lower the amount working against your cancer. In plain terms, the worry is a weaker effect on a serious skin cancer, which is not something you want to gamble with.

That said, this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, so we honestly don't know how much it matters in real people. Because vismodegib treats cancer and already carries its own liver and side-effect concerns, please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding Bulbine. Don't change anything on your own.

Erivedge (vismodegib) is used to treat adults with basal cell carcinoma — the most common type of skin cancer — in two specific situations: when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic basal cell carcinoma), or when it is locally advanced and has returned after surgery, or when surgery and radiation are not options.

It is not approved for use in children.
