Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP2C9 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates; however, this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the gist for Trimipramine: lab studies suggest Bulbine natalensis may speed up an enzyme called CYP2C9, one of the liver pathways that helps clear this antidepressant. If that happened in real life, your body could break down trimipramine a little faster, which might lower its level and make it work less well. In practice, that could look like your depression symptoms creeping back, or feeling like the medicine just isn't doing its job.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and comes only from test-tube research, never from people, so we don't know if it matters in the real world. Bulbine also carries its own liver and kidney safety concerns. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
