Jamaican Dogwood + Celecoxib
Celecoxib brand names: Celebrex, Elyxyb.
We found no known interaction between Jamaican Dogwood and Celecoxib in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Jamaican Dogwood and Celecoxib
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Celecoxib and Jamaican Dogwood in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Celecoxib
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Celecoxib is filed under 9 classifications — including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids), cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates, cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) inhibitors. Jamaican Dogwood has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being cns depressants (moderate) — and none of Celecoxib’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Jamaican Dogwood Does Interact With Other Medications
Jamaican Dogwood has 248 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Celecoxib isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. See Every Supplement That Interacts With Celecoxib
This page covers Jamaican Dogwood only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Celecoxib page lists 117 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Asarabacca (major), Beer (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major) and Wine (major).
By severity: 5 major · 84 moderate · 28 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Celecoxib page
“Alcohol tops my worry list here. Beer and wine both carry major ratings with celecoxib (Celebrex, Elyxyb) because mixing alcohol with an NSAID raises the odds of stomach and intestinal bleeding, the drug's best-known danger.”

- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Jamaican Dogwood
What is Jamaican Dogwood?
- Insomnia and sleep trouble
- Nerve pain
- Anxiety and tension
- Menstrual cramps
- Muscle pain and spasms
- Migraine and headaches
Jamaican dogwood is a tree bark traditionally used to promote sleep and ease pain, but high-quality human studies are lacking. It can be toxic in larger amounts and should be used cautiously, if at all, and never during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
Piscidia piscipula · Fabaceae · Bark of the root and stem · Dried bark, tinctures, liquid extracts, capsules, teas
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Jamaican Dogwood is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Jamaican Dogwood record says about it on its own.
Jamaican Dogwood: dosing
There is no well-established, standardized dose for Jamaican dogwood. Products vary widely in strength, and the bark's natural compounds can be potent, so there is no safe "recommended" amount we can confidently give.If you choose to use a product, follow the directions on the label exactly and do not exceed them. It is best to start any new supplement only after checking with a pharmacist or doctor, who can help you weigh the risks. Avoid using it long-term or in high amounts.

Celecoxib Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Celecoxib as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Jamaican Dogwood — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
