Jamaican Dogwood + Telmisartan
Telmisartan brand name: Micardis.
We found no known interaction between Jamaican Dogwood and Telmisartan in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Jamaican Dogwood and Telmisartan
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Telmisartan and Jamaican Dogwood in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Telmisartan
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Telmisartan is filed under 4 classifications — including angiotensin receptor blockers (arbs), cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, antihypertensive drugs. Jamaican Dogwood has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being cns depressants (moderate) — and none of Telmisartan’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Jamaican Dogwood Does Interact With Other Medications
Jamaican Dogwood has 248 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Telmisartan isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Telmisartan page
“Telmisartan (Micardis) has one job, holding blood pressure in a safe range, and most of the 140 supplements and herbs listed here can either pile onto that effect or push against it, so I'd approach these combinations with real care. Four carry a major rating and deserve your attention first: two toxic plants that act directly on the h…”

About Jamaican Dogwood
What is Jamaican Dogwood?
- Insomnia and sleep trouble
- Nerve pain
- Anxiety and tension
- Menstrual cramps
- Muscle pain and spasms
- Migraine and headaches
Jamaican dogwood is a tree bark traditionally used to promote sleep and ease pain, but high-quality human studies are lacking. It can be toxic in larger amounts and should be used cautiously, if at all, and never during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
Piscidia piscipula · Fabaceae · Bark of the root and stem · Dried bark, tinctures, liquid extracts, capsules, teas
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Jamaican Dogwood is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Jamaican Dogwood record says about it on its own.
Jamaican Dogwood: dosing
There is no well-established, standardized dose for Jamaican dogwood. Products vary widely in strength, and the bark's natural compounds can be potent, so there is no safe "recommended" amount we can confidently give.If you choose to use a product, follow the directions on the label exactly and do not exceed them. It is best to start any new supplement only after checking with a pharmacist or doctor, who can help you weigh the risks. Avoid using it long-term or in high amounts.

About Telmisartan
What Is Telmisartan Used For?
Brand name: Micardis
Telmisartan tablets (sold as Micardis and as generic telmisartan) treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, mainly strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines.
Both Micardis and generic telmisartan tablets are also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes. This use is for people 55 or older at high risk who are unable to take ACE inhibitors. High risk can mean a history of coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attack (a “mini-stroke”), or high-risk diabetes with organ damage.

Telmisartan Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Telmisartan as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Jamaican Dogwood — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
