Japanese Persimmon + Itraconazole
Itraconazole brand names: Sporanox, Sporanox Injection, Tolsura.
We found no known interaction between Japanese Persimmon and Itraconazole in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Japanese Persimmon and Itraconazole
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Itraconazole and Japanese Persimmon in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Itraconazole
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Itraconazole is filed under 8 classifications — including antifungals, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) inhibitors. Japanese Persimmon has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and antihypertensive drugs (moderate) — and none of Itraconazole’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Itraconazole
This page covers Japanese Persimmon only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Itraconazole page lists 182 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Beer (major), Grapefruit (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major) and St. John's Wort (major).
By severity: 6 major · 136 moderate · 40 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Itraconazole page
“Serious fungal infections are what itraconazole (Sporanox, Tolsura) is for, and the drug travels through CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that also handles a large share of supplements. That overlap is why this list reaches 182 ingredients, and it earns genuine care; start with the six rated major.”

About Japanese Persimmon
What is Japanese Persimmon?
- High blood pressure
- Cough and hiccups (traditional use)
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health and fiber
- Skin and general wellness
Japanese persimmon is a nutritious fruit rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidant plant compounds, and its leaves and calyx are used in traditional medicine. While eating the fruit as food is generally safe and healthy, the evidence for concentrated supplements or leaf extracts treating specific conditions is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using persimmon products medicinally.
Diospyros kaki · Ebenaceae · Fruit, leaves, and the dried fruit calyx (persimmon stalk) · Fresh or dried fruit, tea (often from leaves), powder, capsules, and extracts
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Japanese Persimmon is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Japanese Persimmon record says about it on its own.
Japanese Persimmon: dosing
There is no standardized or proven medicinal dose for persimmon supplements. As a food, persimmon is simply eaten as a fresh or dried fruit. For leaf teas, powders, and capsules, the right amount varies by product. If you choose to use a persimmon supplement, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Itraconazole
What Is Itraconazole Used For?
Brand names: Sporanox, Sporanox Injection, Tolsura
Itraconazole capsules (including Sporanox capsules and generic itraconazole capsules) treat serious fungal infections — blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and aspergillosis — in both people with normal immune systems and those who are immunocompromised. Capsule forms are also approved for nail fungus (onychomycosis) caused by dermatophytes in non-immunocompromised patients. Tolsura (a gelatin-coated capsule formulation) treats blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and aspergillosis in adults, but is not approved for nail fungus and is not interchangeable with other itraconazole products.
Itraconazole oral solution is specifically approved for oropharyngeal candidiasis (thrush — a fungal infection of the mouth) and esophageal candidiasis (a fungal infection of the food pipe). Only the oral solution has been shown to work for these mouth and throat infections; capsules cannot be substituted for this use.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Itraconazole
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (11,613 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.
