Treprostinil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Java Tea interacts with.

Some preliminary clinical evidence suggests that Java tea has antihypertensive effects. Further, animal research suggests that Java tea has diuretic properties. Theoretically, taking Java tea with other antihypertensive drugs might increase the effects and risk for hypotension with these drugs.

Here's the simple version: Treprostinil (Orenitram) is a medicine that opens up blood vessels to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, and on its own it can lower your blood pressure and cause things like dizziness, headache, flushing, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up. Java Tea is thought to act as a mild diuretic (water pill) and may gently lower blood pressure too.

So when you put them together, the worry is simply additive. The two may push blood pressure down a little more than expected, which could leave you feeling faint or unsteady. Keep in mind this caution is theoretical, based on how Java Tea is believed to work, not on strong human studies. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and let them know if you notice extra dizziness.

About Treprostinil

What Is Treprostinil Used For?

Treprostinil treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Depending on the product and route, it is used to improve exercise ability, delay disease progression, or reduce symptoms tied to physical activity. Remodulin and treprostinil injection products are also indicated for patients who need to transition away from another PAH medicine called epoprostenol.

Tyvaso, Tyvaso DPI, and Yutrepia (inhaled forms) are additionally approved to treat pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3) — lung-pressure problems caused by scarring or inflammation in the lung tissue itself. Orenitram (extended-release oral tablet) is specifically indicated to delay disease progression and improve exercise capacity in PAH.
